Heart to Heart

I with 11 scouts went to Bukhay to see old man who was left uncared and ignored by his relatives. He cannot speak his name and age properly and we could not know his name. Residents nearby called him “Palang Bajay”. Old man doesn’t have any children of his own. He is staying in one of his relatives newly constructed incomplete house. House is wide open without any door and curtains to protect from harsh weather. He doesn’t have enough rations and food supply. He also doesn’t have proper clothes to wear. He is too weak to cook for himself with his very limited utensils. He also doesn’t have proper water supply for drinking and washing. Old man survives by the few rations offered by the residents nearby. Poor man sleeps with dust laden blankets which wasn’t wash the day it was offered by some of his long lost relatives. He struggles to cook his once a day meal in his only two copper pots with his limited ration offered by some neighbors or students and staffs nearby. His firewood was also collected by scouts from Bukhay Primary School. My little kind heart girls changed his old dirty shirt new shirt that we collected from the town. We cleaned his room which was hardly cleaned few years ago. We removed dust from his all thickly dust laden blankets which was never ever touched by any clean hand and dried up in the sun so that we can sleep comfortably. We put curtains on the door and wide open windows and blocked one side of wide open windows with plastics to prevent him from very harsh winter. Our team could only offer few kilograms of rice, 1-liter cooking oil, package of salt, 1 kilogram of Sugar and some vegetables which was collectively bought from our respective homes. Lunch with him was so special with big smiles from his face which made our delicious packed lunch more enjoyable. May be such kind of delicious meals with warm hearts to him was long time ago with his parents. Tears of Happiness rolls over poor old man’s wrinkled check touched our heart and automatically our kind heart girls cried too. I realized that our little time and contribution meant world of happiness to somebody. Scouts participated 1. Pema Wangmo 2. Tshering Choden 3. Rekha Gurung 4. Kinley Dema 5. Dorji Chogyel 6.
