Greening Tagum: Scouts for Responsible Gardening

This project was motivated by the goal of promoting responsible consumption and preserving green spaces through the establishment of sustainable urban gardens in Tagum City. It aimed to empower Scouts as advocates of eco-friendly food production and engage the community in local agriculture. The initiative supports long-term food security and climate resilience by transforming idle areas into productive green spaces.

A community-based ocular visit was conducted where Scouts, guided by adult leaders, assessed potential garden sites in selected barangays. They conducted field inspections focusing on soil quality, sunlight, water access, and community involvement, while also engaging in discussions with local residents. The activity allowed participants to gather essential data and develop initial strategies for implementing sustainable urban vegetable gardens.

The project emphasized the importance of thorough site assessment and early community engagement in ensuring the success of sustainable urban gardening initiatives. The experience allowed Scouts to understand how responsible land use, environmental observation, and collaboration with local stakeholders contribute to effective planning. It also strengthened their leadership and awareness of their role in promoting food security and green living.
