Gothatuwa was a flood affected area during the heavy flooding occurred in May 2016. The displaced people victimized in the surrounding areas were accommodated in a relief camp held in Gothatuwa Maha Vidyalaya, so its normal schooling activities were disturbed for couple of weeks. As part of its Community Service activities for 2016, Scouts of Colombo District decided to offering a helping hand to clean the school premises in order to clean and arrange for recommence its normal schooling activities. On May 28, some of the scouts accompanied by leaders making a crew of 30 members were gathered at the School Premises in early day and involved in cleaning of surrounding area, class rooms as well as desks and chairs etc. All Scouts participated in this worked hard for about 7 hours to make the school environment clean and tidy and supportive for its children to recommence their studies. The Principle of the school was impressed very much and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all participated in the event. As a member of the team, I am happy to take part and give my fullest in this Social Service Activity.
