The project entails the planting of trees next to the widening of a highway. The Group met with the civil engineers that are widening the Inanda road to discuss the proposed tree planting project with them. They were happy and supported the project even offering to supply staff to assist with digging the holes prior to the actual tree planting day. They did point out that it would be advisable to wait until all the earthworks were completed before they did the planting as the trees would be at risk from their heavy construction machinery. The time line they gave was around July/ August/ September 2013 depending on their progress, given they are widening a 8km stretch of road. Unfortunately this date keeps being pushed out due to delays mostly due to heavy rain and last year the Inanda road bridge collapsed and the trees would have been planted 200m passed the bridge. The civil engineers have now given August 2014 for the start of the project. In the meantime the nursery through whom the trees were ordered have been paid and they are keeping the trees.
