Carnival Cleanup to help School

One of the largest fundraising activities for St. Matthew School and the PTA is the Halloween Carnival. This is a venue where various student groups and organizations sponsor food and drink booths to raise money for their activities throughout the year. Some of the profits of each booth is return back to the PTA to help pay for set-up and clean-up plus sponsor school projects. When our Pack heard this, we decided to help by cleaning the event venue, the football field, before, during and after the event. Our Pack cleaned up the area after the previous nights football game. The mess was incredible and it is sad to say that our own St. Matthew fans were the cause. A team of Tigers and Wolves volunteered to clean up the entire area and place all of the trash in the dumpster. We enlisted Boy Scout, Troop 271, to empty full trash cans during the event. This was very inspirational to our Webelos to see Scouts in Action. Plus, many of our Adult leaders help with logistics for some of the other booths. Afterwards, our Pack cleaned the area and nearby parking lots. We received a tremendous amount of compliments from everyone when they saw a police line of Cub Scouts, Adult Leaders and Parents combing the area for trash. We hope that it was a great demonstration of Scouting Values and also serve as recruitment for future scouts. We are not sure how much money we saved the PTA but that money now stays with their organization. Plus, we helped St. Matthew maintain their environmental citizenship and good standing in the community. We are already on schedule to repeat this service next year. This service will also help our Pack and the St. Matthew School Community have a stronger relationship.
