World Largest Lesson 2017

Report on World Largest Lesson 2017:  SBIP (11/10/17)

This is the initiative from the United Nations Advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals to reach out the message and take pledge, after knowing and realizing the truth. The project of advocating started from 18th September 2017 and it should go on till 22nd November 2017. Last year they focused on SDG 5 ‘Gender equality’. This year they expect us (educators) to focused on Goal 2 ‘No Hunger’

Main aims and objectives are:

  • Introduce Sustainable Development goals to children and young's to unit their action.
  • Understand the sustainable development goal for year 2030
  • Understand world largest lesson for 2017-Zero Huger.
  • Designed and take pledge about ‘food in my plate’
  • Synthesize information and declare a personal pledge to help meet the Global Goals through food choices and behaviors

Theme of this year’s project is “Every plate has a story”

Little drop makes a mighty ocean; yesterday during the club period and after the class (around 2 and half hour), we UNESCO club members had a wonderful interactive session on 17 Sustainable goals and its implications. We focused on Goal 2: ‘No Hunger’.

“Do you know why some people around the world are left without food?’----------

“Do you know that every plate has a story?”-----------------------------------------------

“Have you ever realized about the food you eat, comes from?”--------------------------

“Do you have waste food?”--------------------------------------------------------------------

“Are you conscious about the food that you consume?”-----------------------------------

These are series of question one must strike when we talk about the “FOOD”. My students were amazed and speechless to hear all those questions.  They were touched by the video clip, where it shows, how people living in other parts were deprived of food and its implication to the society.

After my presentation, they were asked to come up with the poster with the following topics:

  1. ‘What’s On My Plate’
  2. ‘My Plate Pledge’
  3. ‘Every plate has a story’
  4. ‘Ripple-effect of food on Global goals’
  5. ‘Success story by food on Global goals’

They came up poster within an hour. Participants had constructed beautiful story through poster. “Every plate has a story”--------- I shared how much time, hard work, and difficult to reach food on our plate. To get Single grain, drop of oil, salt, vegetable, etc, thousands of people have sweat. We can’t describe the story fully about the food on our plates. If we fail to understand the story behind this, we may strive for hunger one day.

Finally, following are some of the pledges taken by our children:

-No waste, No hunger

-No comment on your share

-Healthy food, reduce waste

-No greedy, lets share

-Take right amount of food

-Today’s waste is tomorrow’s shortage

Lastly, let’s join our hands by not wasting the food, having healthy food, taking right amount of food and SHARING OUR FOOD to achieve ZERO HUNGER because we are one heart with one world.
