TICKET TO LIFE PHASE 3
The Ticket to Life Project was inspired by the growing needs KSA observed among vulnerable children and youth in the years following the COVID-19 pandemic ; rising mental health struggles, social stigma against children with disabilities and those in juvenile detention, and increasing youth unemployment worsened by the digital divide and climate-related hardships like drought.
We started by training our leaders first, before touching anything else. In January, 22 scout leaders went through a specialized training at Embu Scouts Centre ; two more than we'd planned for, covering trauma-informed care, inclusive education, and mentorship for vulnerable groups. Getting this right mattered to us, because we didn't want untrained leaders handling young people who've already been through a lot.
Running activities across 9 institutions at once taught us that timing matters more than we expected. Training our leaders first, before setting up units, gave us a much stronger start than jumping straight into recruitment. We also learned that pairing registration with immediate start-up support kept scouts and institutions engaged, rather than waiting months to see any real benefit.
