Tiandi Wildlife Sanctuary Messengers of Peace and Australian Scout Medallion Project

On the weekend of the 8th of December, I organised a camp to complete my Australian Scout Medallion requirements, and I thought it would be a great idea for it to double as a Messengers of Peace Project, because we were making the world a better place for the sancturary owners by helping to care for injured animals and planting 200 native trees and grasses to help stop soil erosion at the sanctuary. We had 17 people attend the camp, 15 scouts and 2 Scout leaders (Falcon and Artemis). I believe that this camp had a strong positive impact on the sancturary owners, as the plants we put in will provide shade for the animals and stop erosion of the soil. It felt good to give back to people who give so much to native Australian wildlife. The trees will also provide habitat for the local sugar glider possums, who do not like going very far along the ground to get to another cluster of trees. This is a big issue on farms that have lots of cleared land between groups of trees. What we have done is help these animals stay safe from feral pests like foxes and feral cats. We have also helped the farm/sancturary owners by keeping the soil intact so erosion doesn’t occur, and soil run downhill into their dam.
