Small Hands, Lasting Care: Sustaining School Stage

Our school stage is the heart of our cultural programmes, award ceremonies and student performances, but over time it showed signs of wear and tear. As Scouts and cultural coordinator, we are taught to leave our surroundings better than we found them, so we chose to act instead of waiting for someone else. A safe, well-kept stage supports quality education (SDG 4) and a sustainable school community (SDG 11). Repairing what we already have reflects responsible use of resources (SDG 12).

The stage repair was initiated under the supervision of the Principal and the cultural coordinator. Two school caretakers and members of the Scout advance team carried out the work together. After inspecting the stage and identifying the repairs needed, the caretakers guided the technical tasks while the Scouts assisted with the repair and finishing. The stage was then made safe and ready for use, and the Scouts and cultural coordinator will check it regularly to keep it in good condition.

This project taught us the value of teamwork, as working with the Principal, the cultural coordinator, the caretakers and the Scouts made the task easier. We learned to take initiative instead of waiting for others, and that caring for what we already have is more sustainable than replacing it. Most importantly, small acts of service can make a lasting difference to our school community.
