Scouting For Hope Kenya Inspires Leaders to do More
In a two day training held on the 27th & 28th of February 2019 80 Scout leaders from Kisii County in Kenya were inspired to do more in order to support young people in scouting. With the Scout units they have been running used as a reference point the leaders were trained on the different ways of how to use the little they have at their disposal in order to give the scouts a lot. The training that took place in Kisii Rehabilitation & Vocational Centre touched in a special way the Manager of the institution. ‘’ I have been seeing scouts coming in to spend time with my students and I have never known why they are usually so happy when they come but today I have known.’’ Said the Center Manager. He became a scout instantly and asked the facilitators to as well convert the entire institution into scouting as his students had been constantly asking him to consider the program.
‘’My students are disabled and they have various special needs but I have never seen them connect so well with outsiders the way they have connected with scouts, I will be unfair if I denied them the opportunity of becoming scouts, The Manager continued.
The leaders were encouraged highly not to just pick the scouting content they had been trained on but to also try and implement the projects that could raise funds to support the scout activities of their different units as sometimes children want to experience scouting but they cannot afford even their basic needs let alone the extra resources to help them participate in camps and other educational programs in scouting.
Scouting for Hope Kenya with the support of the Messengers of Peace program is striving to give this possibilities to children around Kenya especially those in children centers and rescue centers
