Scouting for Food with Robyne's Nest

I reached out to the organization to inquire about their specific needs and subsequently coordinated a community food drive. With the assistance of our scout troop, we distributed 480 flyers to residents in our community the week before our scheduled pickup. On the designated day, we established a drop-off point available from 12-3 for residents to contribute, and our scouts walked the streets where we had distributed flyers the previous week to collect any donations left outside. Scouts utilized wagons to efficiently gather a substantial amount of contributions.

For several weeks, I dedicated time to promote the event among the scouts, emphasizing the importance of the cause and the beneficiaries. The scouts eagerly embraced the opportunity to assist their local community, resulting in an excellent turnout. They actively participated in various tasks, including planning, creating posters, pre-flyering, collecting donations, and contributing to the cleanup process. The success of the event can be attributed to the meticulous planning, neighborhood-wide promotion through flyers, and the visual reminders provided by the posters.

Our volunteers successfully gathered more than 550 pounds of canned foods, ramen, peanut butter, veggies, soups, and more. Additionally, they collected $70 in gift cards and cash, which were contributed to the organization to purchase fresh produce. The food collected from this drive will be instrumental in providing nourishment for over 350 families during the winter holidays.
