Rooftop Tree Plantation for Peace and Sustainability(IDP-2025)

As a proud member of BIAM Model School and College Scout Group (BMSCSG), I wanted to celebrate International Peace Day in a way that spreads both peace and environmental awareness. To symbolize harmony between people and nature, I planted neem and papaya trees on my rooftop — representing peace, health, and sustainability.

I prepared tubs with soil, ensured proper drainage, and carefully planted the saplings. Alongside this, I painted and cared for nearby trees to protect them from pests and to give the surroundings a fresh, peaceful look. My trainer, along with my mother and sister, helped me throughout the project — from planting to documenting the process through photographs.

Through this activity, I learned how neem and papaya trees contribute to the environment — neem purifies the air and acts as a natural insect repellent, while papaya provides fruits, shade, and supports biodiversity. I also understood the importance of regular watering, soil care, and sunlight management in rooftop gardening.

This initiative did not only benefit me personally but also supported my local community. The newly planted trees will:

  • Improve air quality and reduce heat in the surrounding area.
  • Inspire neighbors and other scouts to adopt rooftop gardening and tree planting.
  • Promote awareness about environmental peace and sustainable living.
  • Contribute to the global goals — SDG 3 (Good Health And Well-Being), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) — by encouraging local action for global impact.

This project taught me that peace is not only about harmony among people but also about living in balance with nature. Small actions like planting a single tree can create ripples of change — nurturing life, hope, and a greener, more peaceful future for all.
