Reviving the Ganga: Preserving Heritage

We were inspired to start this project after noticing that the Ganga ghats were covered with moss, algae, and silt, making the steps slippery and unsafe for visitors. With Ganga Puja approaching, we recognized the risk of accidents due to the increasing number of devotees. As Scouts and Guides, we felt responsible for taking action to restore the ghats, ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more accessible space for the community while preserving the heritage of the sacred Ganga.

After identifying the unsafe condition of the Ganga ghats, our Scout and Guide team conducted a site assessment and planned a cleanliness drive. We gathered the necessary cleaning tools and worked together to remove moss, algae, silt, and other debris from the ghat steps and surrounding areas. The cleaned surfaces were thoroughly scrubbed to reduce slipperiness and improve safety. Throughout the activity, we promoted teamwork, community service, and environmental responsibility.

Through this project, we learned the value of teamwork, dedication, and service towards the community. We realized that identifying and addressing local issues can make public spaces safer and more accessible for everyone. The project also strengthened our sense of environmental responsibility and taught us the importance of preserving the cultural and heritage significance of the Ganga ghats through collective action and active citizenship.
