Mural painting for local Bryanston Church
This project aimed to brighten the church’s classroom section by painting murals that resemble a biblical village. Each classroom was planned to look like a shop owned by a famous Bible character, transforming the plain white corridors into a colorful, inviting space. The goal was to inspire youth to attend Sunday school and build community by involving them in the creative process. Through teamwork and art, the project hopes to make learning more engaging and the space more vibrant.
This project involved designing and painting murals on ten classroom walls with Scouts and church youth. Each room was painted a unique background color, then decorated with hand-drawn designs filled in like a coloring book. The work was split into two parts: mural painting and sanding/painting classroom doors. The initiative brought creativity and teamwork to life, transforming the space into a vibrant, welcoming environment for the church community.
I learned that assigning tasks based on people’s strengths makes the work smoother—artists should handle drawing and outlining, while others can focus on painting or sanding. Using the right tools is crucial: small art brushes are better for detail, and wall-friendly markers last longer. Keeping morale high is just as important; music, breaks, and flexible roles helped everyone stay motivated and creative throughout the project
