Meendum Manjappai Rally at Naduveerapattu Village

The project was inspired by the increasing use of single-use plastics in Naduveerapattu village and its visible impact on the local environment. Observing plastic waste affecting streets, water sources, and public spaces motivated us to revive the traditional practice of using manjappai. The aim was to create awareness, encourage sustainable habits, and protect the village for future generations.

The project was carried out with the strong support of the Naduveerapattu Village President and active participation of local community members. A rally and awareness programme were conducted across the village. Students and volunteers interacted with residents, and a collective pledge was taken in front of the community to avoid single-use plastics and adopt manjappai in daily life.

The project taught us that meaningful change begins with community involvement and local leadership. We learned the value of clear communication, cultural relevance, and teamwork in spreading environmental awareness. Taking a public pledge strengthened accountability and commitment. Most importantly, the initiative showed that collective effort and small lifestyle changes can successfully drive sustainable practices at the grassroots level.
