Leading the way to mindfulness
The scouts of troop 37 facilitated Coes Beach Day at John Binienda Memorial Beach in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 8, 2018 along with many companies, individuals and organizations. For almost 300 children and individuals, beach day was the first time to using a kayak or canoe. The \scouts provided a critical role in ensuring the safety of each boat user , properly fitting them with a safety vest and providing instruction to novices on safe and effective water craft use.
More than a simple service, the troop 37 scouts created an opportunity for other children to experience health, wellness and developing the "Habits of Mind".
The Habits of Mind are dispositions that empower creative and critical thinking.
To be successful navigating a craft on the water, the boat users need to listen with understanding and empathy, thinking flexibly, manage impulsivity to the best of each ability, strive for accuracy, apply past knowledge to new situations, gather data through all the senses, take responsible risks, respond with wonderment and awe to natures beauty, and remain open to continuous learning. The community is so thankful for the ongoing leadership and service of troop 37 in their role as messengers of peace.
