Istana (Presidential Palace) Hospitality Team
As one of the adult leaders organising the community project for our Scouts to volunteer their time during the public holidays as Guest Ambassador at the Istana (Presidential Palace) Open House. The Open House also served to raised funds for the President Challenge, an initiative that donates to various charities in Singapore.
Various duties include:
• Crowd Control
• Wheelchair assistance
• Assist souvenirs, food & drink stalls
• Entrance ticket collection
• Food & safety coordinator
The Istana is the official residence and office of the President of Singapore. "Istana" means "palace" in Malay, it is where the President receives state guests. The Istana is usually open 5 times to the public throughout the year, usually on a public holiday. We are proud and honoured to serve the public and our Chief Scout.
Since the start of our Scouting involvement as the Guest Ambassador from 2015 onwards, this project has allowed our visitors to not only enjoy the lush greenery but also to purchase souvenirs to benefits the various organisations under the "President Challenge" project.
In this project, our youths learnt how to explain and communicate with the local visitors and overseas tourists. There were occasions where the Scouts were unable to translate certain words from English to Mandarin, and I assisted them by taking over the explanation in Mandarin. This allows the tourist to have a greater understanding of the open house and helped to raise more funds through their admission fees and souvenirs purchases.
