Highlands PS turning pages together

The Scouting-in-Schools team implemented the Literature Adventure at Highlands Primary to ignite creativity, foster empathy, and celebrate learning through books. Scouts wanted to inspire curiosity and provide learners with a platform to explore diverse stories while building reading and comprehension skills.
Learners explored stories, read aloud, wrote short stories, learned parts of speech, and practiced dictionary use. Yeboneers supported learners individually, helping them connect with content, express ideas, and gain confidence in sharing and discussing stories.
Scouts observed that stories can foster empathy and connection among learners. Challenges included selecting materials appealing to all. They learned the value of inclusivity, patience, and reflection in supporting diverse learners, and recognized storytelling as a powerful tool to enhance engagement and understanding.
