Every drop counts
Ntando Yoni led the project with the help of 10 Rovers; the project took place at Pienaar Township, in Inyamazane District, Nelspruit. Most people in Pienaar do not have access to clean drinking water; the Group took initiative in making sure that people have access to the waterhole in order to get clean water. A great initiative was put into implementing the project. The Group had to dig deep holes for the drums. These drums were placed on the holes with stones underneath in order to stop the water from coming out. A layer of a tail was placed to block the water from coming out and was covered with sand and cement mix was poured to smoothed the ground. The Group was grateful with the help from the TV personality and the Provincial office.
While the project was still on progress the Group used wood and corrugated iron to prevent people from opening the cover on top of the hole and to prevent dogs from drinking the water. Rovers enjoyed working on the project, and they managed to raise awareness about the dangers of unpolluted water and equipped the community on how to prevent themselves from diseases that can be caused by drinking polluted water.
Few days after the implementation of the project, the community thanked the Group, saying, that the water is now safe to drink, and safe from the animals. They also said that this has motivated them and in future they will like to be involved in such projects. This project had a great impact on the lives of the Group and the community at large. It has motivated the Group to be more involved in community projects as this helps raise awareness.
