Don't Feed the Monkey

Our project was inspired by the growing practice of feeding monkeys along highways in Bhutan. We wanted people to understand that human food can disturb monkeys' natural feeding habits, make them dependent on people, and increase conflicts. As GCBS Rovers, we felt responsible for protecting wildlife and encouraging travellers and communities to coexist safely with monkeys without feeding them.
We began by presenting our awareness plan to the Forest Department on April 24, 2025. On April 26, we worked with the Forest Department and Royal Bhutan Police to raise public awareness about the risks of feeding monkeys. On May 3, we installed "Don't Feed the Monkey" signboards along the Phuentsholing–Thimphu National Highway and carried out a litter clean-up to support wildlife protection.
Through this project, we learned the importance of protecting wildlife and promoting safe coexistence between humans and animals. We understood how feeding monkeys can affect their natural behaviour and create risks for both people and wildlife. We also developed teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Working with the Forest Department and Royal Bhutan Police taught us the value of collaboration and community service in protecting our environment.
