Cub Scout Messengers of Peace Local Community Project

Our Cub Scouts Section decided to run a Messengers Of Peace project to support our immediate local community. We invited a representative from a Local Community support organisation called Anglicare to visit our Cub Scouts and explain about what they do and how they support people in our local community.

During the session we taught the Cub Scouts all about how there are many people who find themselves in circumstances that mean they are struggling to meet the everyday care needs of themselves and their family. We cannot always tell just by looking at someone whether they have “enough” or are in fact in need of extra help and support with the basic needs in particular food.

In preparation for this activity we asked the Cub Scouts with the support of their parents/families to put together some appropriate food item(s) to donate to a collection to be presented to the local representative from Anglicare during her visit. For a small group, we managed to put together a generous collection and assortment of food items to be donated.

The Cub Scouts also each wrote in Christmas cards a message of peace and hope to then be handed on to people/families seeking support from Anglicare in the next month leading up to Christmas. These were put together and presented with the food donations.
