Ashokasthami
We the Indians, observe many festivals, and 'service' is always in the background. One such occasion is "Ashokasthami" dedicated to Lord Shiva(Lingaraj). Considering the large crowd gathering, like all other years, Odisha State Bharat Scouts & Guides conducted a service camp at Lingaraj Temple.
92 Rovers and Rangers were called for the service Camp. They reported on the 04th of April and cleaned the premises. The next day, the service team was led to Lingaraj temple. They were divided into groups and allotted different duties such as distributing water, water sprinkling, carrying sick persons, maintaining the cleanliness of the temple premises, keeping discipline, etc.
We learned that customs and rituals have a great effect on us as they give opportunity to exchange our thoughts, to share our feelings. And to render service on such an occasion not only gives mental satisfaction but also keeps us close to the public.
