2ASM - Bedfordview Rotary Park and Book Centre
As part of the Second Africa Scout Moot, the organisers partnered with local Rotary clubs to execute their projects. The park is an ongoing civic improvement scheme on land donated by the Bedfordview Rotary Club. Adjacent to the park is the humanitarian book centre, another ongoing Rotary project. Running these projects close to where the off-site activities took place for the Moot helped spread the impact of the Rovers' Service around the entire province
Bedfordview Rotary Club and Better Bedfordview (a civic engagement charity) planned the project and provided materials and technical direction. At the park the young people helped to establish a flowerbed around the Rotary Sign and planted poles around the park to prevent cars driving onto the grass. At the Book & Linen Centre, the volunteers helped sort linen, decant soaps and sort books that are then distributed to under-privileged schools, old age homes etc.
This project was a good opportunity to test partnerships with a local Rotary club and other community groups. Based on this project and the other 2ASM projects, we have begin to form a closer relationship between Scouts South Africa and Rotary district 9400
