YOSSA : Safe Scouting, Safe from Harm

YOSSA: Promoting Safe from Harm Through Youth Empowerment : Creating a Safe, Inclusive, and Supportive Scouting Environment YOSSA (Youth Scouts against Substance and Social Addictions) is a youth educational initiative held from 25–27 September 2026, aimed at encouraging young people to develop healthy habits, make responsible decisions, and create safer communities. Connecting YOSSA with Safe from Harm : YOSSA supports the WOSM Safe from Harm commitment by promoting safety, respect, inclusion, and well-being in Scouting. It encourages young people to recognize potential risks, respect personal boundaries, prevent bullying, and speak up when they experience or witness unsafe situations. Through awareness and peer education, YOSSA emphasizes that safety is everyone's responsibility. Young people are encouraged to support their friends without judgment, respect differences, protect personal information, and seek help from trusted adults or appropriate safeguarding contacts when necessary. Activities and Community Engagement : YOSSA promotes practical educational activities, including anti-bullying campaigns, digital safety awareness, substance misuse prevention, peer discussions, and education about healthy relationships. These activities aim to develop empathy, leadership, responsible communication, and awareness of risks among young people. Collaboration between Scouts, Scout leaders, schools, families, and communities is also encouraged to strengthen prevention efforts and create environments where every young person feels respected, included, and supported. Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals : YOSSA aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Through education and youth participation, YOSSA encourages healthier lifestyles, safer learning environments, and peaceful relationships. Our Commitment : YOSSA believes every young person deserves to learn, grow, and participate in Scouting in a safe environment, free from bullying, discrimination, and exploitation. By empowering young people to protect themselves and support others, YOSSA aims to build a culture of care, responsibility, and mutual respect. Our message is simple: Protect yourself, respect others, speak up, and help create a safer world for every Scout.
