Scouts challenged 'Better Choices for envionment'.

Beaver scouts of the Hiratsuka 4th Troop challenged the Earth Tribe's 'Better Choices - Making Positive Environmental Decisions.' In May, the scouts individually potted the vegetable seedlings they chose, nurtured the vegetables until early September, and kept observation diaries of their growth. During this period, in parallel, the scouts engaged in conversations with their parents about eco-friendly activities conducted in each household, reflected on and reevaluated their daily eco-friendly practices, and even established new activities. On September 3rd, the scouts wrote essays sharing their thoughts on growing and eating the vegetables, as well as describing the eco-friendly activities in each scout's household. They presented these essays in front of other scouts and parents during the troop meeting. During the cultivation process, the scouts faced challenges such as 'finding it difficult to water,' 'setting up support stakes,' 'placing the pots under the eaves on rainy days,' etc. Through these efforts and hardships, they carefully nurtured the vegetables. As they observed the growth of the vegetables, with excitement they noted, 'Yellow flowers bloomed, then fruits appeared, gradually growing larger, which was very thrilling.' This experience deepened the scouts' interest in and understanding of the process." They presented various eco-friendly activities such as 'using bicycles or walking instead of taking the car whenever possible,' 'disposing of waste by separating it and placing it in the appropriate bins to prevent litter in the sea and rivers,' 'planting vegetables every year to absorb carbon dioxide,' and 'expressing interest in cherishing forests.' They declared their commitment to implementing and carrying out these eco-friendly activities. Through this activity, the scouts gained practical experience in cultivating vegetables, tasted the fruits of their labor, executed their own eco-friendly activities, listened to friend scouts shared their eco-friendly activities, and have become admirable 'advocates for the environment.' And they can understand while individual efforts may be small in environmental activities, and if everyone taking the environmental activities, the environment must definitely improve.
