Indonesian LifeLeaders Project 2.0: From Trained Leaders to Impact Innovators for Earth

This story is about Indonesian LifeLeaders Project 2.0: Equipping adults to encourage Scouts Impact Innovators for Earth.

From August 26 to 28, 2026, Gerakan Pramuka Indonesia organised the LifeLeaders National Training of Trainers at Taman Rekreasi Wiladatika (TRW) Cibubur, Jakarta. The training is one of the essential stages of LifeLeaders Project 2.0, which is supported by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, World Scout Foundation, and Accenture Inc., and is pivotal to ensuring the implementation of the Impact Innovators Challenge as part of the LifeLeaders project in Indonesia. The challenge aimed to equip young people with the ability to innovate and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through design thinking.

In the training, there were 30 participants from 11 provinces in Indonesia: Aceh, North Sumatra, Jambi, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Central Kalimantan, Bali, and South Sulawesi.  The participants were adult leaders selected from the best leaders registered for the training. At the end of the training, each participant developed an action plan and may submit a funding request to the National Headquarters to support their pilot project.

The International Commissioner of Gerakan Pramuka, Kak Toto Siswanto, opened the training and delivered a keynote speech highlighting the rapidly changing world. He stressed the need for Scout leaders and the organisation to adapt and, most importantly, to actively contribute by encouraging Scouts to find solutions for communities and to innovate to tackle social and environmental problems.

During the training, participants explored the principles and practice of design thinking through a variety of interactive sessions. These included a mix of knowledge-sharing, adult learning dialogues, group discussions, role-playing, and hands-on activities, with the involvement of a community leader who implemented the SDGs at the smaller community level. All sessions were facilitated by the LifeLeaders Team, who had previously completed Asia-Pacific regional-level training in 2025. One facilitator of Earth Tribe was also involved in understanding the project's focus, and two source persons shared their practices on community action (Dr Taufik Supriadi) and Storytelling in the Scout for SDGs hub (Kak Khaidir Marzuki). Moreover, a representative from APR WSB, Kak Arjay Cameros, was involved in the Project Management session, ensuring the planned project adhered to SMART principles. Participants were grouped and challenged to identify real-world problems, brainstorm ideas, develop solutions, create action plans, and effectively use tools for project monitoring and evaluation.

Following the training, all participants will join the National Life Leaders team to share and implement the project at the local levels. Together with the alumni of the same training in 2025, the team is stronger to implement the LifeLeaders initiative in Indonesia.
