Beginners Course of Sairam Institution

It was a crisp morning on 04th January 2025. The Sairam Group of Institutions buzzed with quiet anticipation as 648 faculty members — some curious, some hesitant — gathered for the Beginners Course for Adult Leaders. I, Mrs. Reim Francis, stood at the front of the hall, a knot of excitement and responsibility in my heart. This wasn’t just a course; it was the first step in weaving a stronger Scouting community. The session began with a simple question: "What does it mean to be a leader?" Silence. A few exchanged glances, others stared at their notepads. I smiled and shared the story of Lord Baden-Powell — how a single man's vision sparked a global movement of courage, kindness, and service. Slowly, the atmosphere shifted. The faculty began opening up, sharing their thoughts on leadership and responsibility. As we moved into the practical session on knot tying, I noticed a particular participant — Mr. Arjun, a young professor — struggling with the Reef Knot. Frustration crept onto his face. I knelt beside him and said, “A knot is like leadership — it’s not about pulling harder but understanding how the ropes work together.” He laughed, tried again, and finally, the knot held firm. The room erupted into applause, and a wave of confidence spread across the group. By the end of the day, something had shifted. The participants weren’t just faculty members anymore — they were mentors, ready to guide Scouts and Guides with patience and passion. As the sun set, I looked at the knots we had tied — strong, secure, and interconnected — just like the bond we had formed that day. Because in Scouting, every knot tells a story — a story of unity, strength, and a shared purpose. And this was just the beginning.
