Green With Elders
Phoenix Rover Crew built a greenhouse for the elderly to promote food security, dignity, and self-reliance. The project addressed limited access to fresh produce, while fostering intergenerational connections, environmental awareness, and community service, aligning with Rover Scouting values.
Phoenix Rover Crew's project execution plan for the elderly greenhouse project followed a community-centred approach. They identified needs through stakeholder engagement, planned and designed a simple, durable greenhouse, and mobilized resources through funding and volunteer support.
The Crew handled construction, skills training, and handover, ensuring accessibility and sustainability. Post-construction, they provided initial setup, planting, and capacity building.
We discovered the power of teamwork and shared responsibility, affirming Helen Keller’s words: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” The project taught us patience and resilience, reminding us that “success is not final, failure is not fatal” as Winston Churchill noted. We learned that sustainable impact matters more than quick results, echoing Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Through challenges, we can.
