Climate Hero Pekalongan
I started this project because I believe Scouts should be actively involved in addressing the climate crisis. Scouting has always taught us to protect nature, and in Pekalongan—a coastal city already facing tidal floods—the urgency feels even closer. I was motivated to connect Scouting values with real climate action and inspire fellow Scouts to become part of the solution.
I organized a four-hour Climate Hero session in Pekalongan. We began by discussing the basics of climate change and how it affects coastal areas like ours. I then encouraged participants to reflect on local issues—such as flooding and coastal erosion—and think of ways Scouts can respond. In groups, they designed practical actions that could be applied in their schools, communities, and Scout activities.
I learned that many Scouts in Pekalongan already see and experience the impacts of climate change in their daily lives. What they need is guidance, collaboration, and encouragement to transform their awareness into concrete solutions. Climate Hero sessions can help Scouts turn their care for the environment into real, collective action.
