Ticket To Life For Scout Groups in Malawi

Scouting is the most inspiring youth organization in Malawi and globally, serving as a viable platform that imparts leadership skills to young people and enables them to make a positive impact in their communities by providing creative and innovative solutions to pressing issues. Despite scouting's tremendous impact, many scout groups in Malawi face financial challenges, limiting their reach to young people who could benefit from scouting programs.
To address this, we launched the Sustainable Socio-Economic Empowerment of Scout Groups initiative in Malawi under the Ticket to Life project, a flagship program of World Scouting. Our goal is to equip young people with business skills, enabling them to generate income and sustain their scout groups. One beneficiary, FOMO Kumwamba Scout Troop, received training in goat keeping and business management. They have grown their goat population from 2 to 8 showing quite promising.
I have seen the value of empowering young people with practical skills (like business and goat keeping) leading to tangible progress and sustainability. Through the project, I have also learnt that partnerships can help scale impact and make scout groups financially stable. At the same time, I have also learnt that addressing financial challenges can help scout groups reach more young people and impact their communities, making them more relevant in their communities.
