TALKING SOAP A SCOUT SOLUTION IN MALAWI
Living in Malawi, I have seen how cholera and malaria continue to harm families and communities. I wanted to take action as a Scoutteaching practical hygiene and empowering youth to lead change. I was inspired to create Talking Soap, a simple tool made from recycled materials, to help children and community members remember proper handwashing and toilet hygiene. Our goal is to save lives, raise awareness, and inspire Scouts and communities to practice and share hygiene every day.
CHAMBO Scout troop used songs, drama, and patrol activities to teach hygiene. Our Talking Soap, made from recycled cartons, reminded children and communities about handwashing and toilet hygiene. Scouts led sessions in schools and communities, sharing knowledge and saving lives.
I learned that small actions can save lives. Using songs, drama, and patrol activities makes hygiene education fun and effective. Scouts can lead change in their communities, even with limited resources, and simple ideas like Talking Soap can have a big impact.
