SMILE AND SHINE: Healthy Smiles, Clean Hands
Good hygiene is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to protect health and promote well-being. With this in mind, the Scouts of Passi City launched “Smile & Shine: Healthy Smiles, Clean Hands”, a community outreach activity focused on teaching young children the importance of proper handwashing and toothbrushing. The goal was to help children build healthy habits in a fun and engaging way, while also involving their families in the learning process.
The Smile & Shine activity at Gawad Kalinga, Brgy. Agdahon, Passi City brought together 26 Scouts, 50 children, and 50 parents. Scouts led fun, hands-on lessons on proper handwashing and toothbrushing, using songs and demonstrations to teach the basics of hygiene. Each child received a health kits with a toothbrush, toothpaste, hand soap, and a cup, and parents actively participated. The activity promoted healthy habits, community involvement, and gave Scouts a chance to lead through service.
Through Smile & Shine, the Scouts helped promote personal hygiene and strengthened community ties. They learned that leadership is rooted in service, and that even small actions, like teaching a child to wash their hands, can make a lasting impact. The experience highlighted the power of teamwork, compassion, and the joy of giving back.
