Scouts of the World Award Voluntary Service: Green Hydrogarden Project 2016
A community development project was initiated by a group of Rover Scouts from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) as part of their Scout of the World Award Voluntary Service. This project was applying the aquaponics system which combining hydroponic and aquaculture concepts. The idea was introduced to help the community in Maahad Tahfiz Muhammadi untuk Anak Yatim dan Fakir Miskin , Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia ( a school for the orphan and poor) in reducing their kitchen’s cost in term of vegetable supply as well as to nurture the gardening hobby among the orphans.
The project was started in early February until the middle of June 2016. The project was selected as the aquaponic system do not require the large space area and it is easy to manage. Overall, this project was successful and it was our pride in contribution to the community as it may provide sustainable impacts for the school as a whole.
