Rover Leader, Rover Scouts Circle 56 Report Written: October 3, 2014 Last Friday, Sept. 19, Metro Manila was flooded by the South Western monsoon intensified by the Typhoon Mario and Marikina was no exception to this and was greatly affected by the torrential rain, especially the Barangay near the Marikina River which the water level rose for about 20 meters above sea level. And because of this, our Rover Circle together with our sponsoring institution, the Marikina Family Sponsorship Programme, who were thoroughly communicating each other during the typhoon, have planned to help our affected sponsored families by distributing food packs for them that is composed of rice, canned goods and noodles. This relief effort was done the following day. About 10 in the morning, Sept. 20, we’ve gathered at our institution’s office to disseminate tasks for our fellow comrades.
We divided into three groups and the first one we have is the buyer group which held the responsibility to acquire supplies from the near supermarkets, the repacking group and lastly, the distributing team. Although we have these three groups but still all of us cooperated in the second and third group. After we have done repacking, about 2 in the afternoon, our group went into the distribution site which is located at Twinville Subdivision, Brgy. Concepcion Uno in front of a preschool. Here, we saw our sponsored families waiting for the distribution. After the third group has made the people fall in line in their respective Damayans and made them sign the distribution lists to avoid receiving food packs twice and to account all their families, we’ve started the distribution. The relief operations run smoothly. And about 4 p.m., we decided to stop this delivering of food packs for the reason that only 10 relief goods was left and it can be claimed by those families who didn’t through Sisters in the preschool that was mentioned above. After the activity, the official count of those who were given by the packs is about 197 families. And after this, is the photo opportunity for the group.
