Project Orion 2

Project Orion 2

On 6th of June, 2010, we went to Underwater World Singapore to participate in the pre-event. An informative and detailed lecture by Professor Diong allow me to understand on the conservation of turtles and also equip us with the necessary knowledge for the project in handling hatchlings in the hatchery. it inspire me to do my best to spread awareness of turtles conservation. The 15 days of the project officially start on 26th June to 10 july 2010 where we work with the local and WWF Malaysia staff to get to know their culture and provide our assistant to spread awareness of turtles conservation. we first spent time painting villager house, sharing experience on the cultural differences. throughout the trip, we get to visit the local school to meet up with the scouts for some game and song session which is also a great way to get closer to the villager and be bonded with them. beside getting to know them, we do excavation of hatching and night patrol to release of turtles and look out of egg poaches .beside looking out for turtle, we also gather resources to do mangrove replanting to ensure the coast line is not being washed away by strong waves. We also taught the Pewanis member how compost Heap (fertilizer) is done using the food waste generated in their daily cooking. We also involved the local kids to help us to make their pledge using their hand prints on the banner to “save the turtles”. in conclusion this project do taught me alot in terms of cultural aspect as well as it Inspire us to Learn, Do and Share or experience.
