After the fire at the MWSC distribution center on 4th of December 2014 a large amount of water bottles were distributed to the citizens of male’ to minimize damage caused by the shortage of water. After the problem was fixed and clean water was distributed to the homes of Male’ a large number of plastic bottles distributed during the crisis were being dumped as trash. Due to the potential risk to the environment caused by these bottles the scout association of Maldives along with the scout groups of male’ organized a water bottle collection project to reduce these effects. This project was registered as a world scout environment project and an earth hour beyond the hour event. Scouts who were taking part in this event were distributed into groups and were sent to different areas of the city.
