Paws and Claws
Her name is Gracie, she is a beautiful girl that has had a bad year of life. I met her at Paws and Claws Adoptions.
I learnt that Gracie had been abused by her owners, they saw a quick way to make money, and let this little girl get pregnant although very young and underweight. The day came that she gave birth to 6 pups, that the owners sold within days.
Paws and Claws heard of this and bounced into action. They took ownership of Gracie and managed to find all the pups, sick and hungry, they got ownership of them too.one puppy was so sick from starvation it passed, the others had a long battle to survive.
Paws and Claws is a charity, they paid for these dogs to see vets, be immunized, fed and bought back to health. Finally to be desexed, microchipped and re-homed.
I saw an opportunity for my cubs, I spoke to the owner of Paws and Claws, found out their needs and got straight into action.
Playford Cubs adopted a little girl, "Storm", something not usually done while the pup is fighting for life. The cubs couldn't hold her or meet her yet as she was so sick and needed to stay under 24 hour care. Our hall was filled with photos of her, her siblings and Gracie, her mum.
We had a collection box at the hall for all the sick orphaned animals at Paws and Claws. We collected newspapers, food, blankets, toys and money. We learnt about animals and their care. We had a big fundraiser night inviting other groups.
I went in each weekend to visit Storm, to update our photos. I took some cubs that got to tend to some animals, feeding, cleaning and loving them. A couple of our scouts, cubs and parent helpers, helped build a vet room, we put in the man power to clean and build and now they have a completed vet room to tend to all the animals thanks to our group.
Slowly the pups got healthier and were able to visit our hall for cub nights. Some cubs took Storm and her siblings to the vet on the morning of their desexing, and gave after care.
Gracie and all five surviving pups have made a full recovery and are all in loving homes. Storm is living with me but is still considered Playford Cubs puppy. She is very spoilt and loved, and some cubs took her to puppy school.
Paws and Claws use their vet room for discounted vaccinations and microchipping, they continue volunteering rescuing animals, calling on us when they need anything. We may not have money but we have lots of hands that are very happy to nurse the animals and do maintenance.
