ONE WITH NATURE
In celebration of World Environment Day, this initiative engages Scouts in coastal cleanup and mangrove planting to raise awareness on marine pollution and ecosystem degradation. Through hands-on activities, it promotes youth involvement in conservation efforts, encourages collaboration with local communities, and highlights the Scouts’ vital role in global environmental action and coastal protection.
The event began with a short environmental orientation, where participants were reminded of the global theme and the local significance of protecting coastal ecosystems. The coastal cleanup drive focused on removing marine debris and solid waste from the local shoreline. In the second part of the activity, the Scouts proceeded to a designated mangrove site where they planted 630 young mangrove propagules to help restore vital coastal habitats.
The cleanup area contained hazardous and scattered debris, requiring caution and supervision, especially for younger participants. Some areas of the mangrove site were muddy and difficult to access, limiting the number of seedlings that could be planted. Nevertheless, the Scouts remained focused and adaptable, accomplishing their mission despite physical and environmental challenges.
