Meerkats Grow for Good Tree Planting
The inspiration for this project came about when our Meerkats, aged 5–7, learned about the importance of trees for clean air, shade, and animal habitats. They wanted to contribute in some way to making their world a better place, not just for themselves, but all they share it with.
Once the idea was seeded, the Meerkat leaders applied for permission to plant trees at the site from the local Lion's Club. They then researched what species of indigenous trees are best suited to the area and selected to plant Coral trees in the dryer areas and Cheesewood trees in the wetter and more protected areas. Trees were obtained from one of the Meerkat leader's home stock of trees cultivated from seed. Transport was arranged to bring the young trees to the site to be planted.
Our Meerkats, aged 5–7, learned about the importance of trees for clean air, shade, and animal habitats. We also discussed how caring for nature makes us part of something bigger - protecting our planet and showing kindness to our community. The Meerkats shared how proud they felt to “plant something that will grow taller than me one day!” They learned that peace begins with small acts of care for people, animals, and the Earth.
