McCarthy Peace Park

The goal of my Eagle Scout community service project, McCarthy Peace Park, was to create a serene peaceful sitting park area while providing an essential protective environment for a majestic Siberian elm tree. The elm tree, which sits behind a public school amongst playing fields and a park, is endangered and in need of protection from activity associated with use of the fields and playground equipment. McCarthy Peace Park project created a protective barrier around the tree to protect its roots system and prevent further damage. Additionally, 4 benches where installed along the barrier to provide a welcoming, attractive and comfortable environment where people can sit and enjoy a peaceful experience amongst the the hectic playing fields. Furthermore, the BSA National Council provided me written approval of my completed Eagle project to also qualify as a Messengers of Peace Project. A beautiful letter qualifying my Eagle project was gratefully delivered to me from both, Mr Ownby, Chair BSA International Committee & International Commissioner, and from Rabbi Peter E. Hyman Chair, BSA Messengers of Peace. McCarthy Peace park, located at 250 North Rd, Chelmsford, MA 01824, is intended to be a conservation, beautification, and preservation service project. Finally, McCarthy Peace Park is the first community service and Eagle project I know of in the area where I am from that will eventually get onto the world scouting map.
