A Home for Bees

We toured several community gardens managed by a local garden club and they mentioned the need for pollenator homes to help the gardens thrive and protect the bee population from urbanization.

The scouts designed the houses and learned about what a good bee home would need. Then we acquired the wood, learned about the tools, and constructed the frames. We are now working with the garden club to locate good spots in the community gardens and discussing maintenance for the homes.

The scouts learned about the importance of pollenators on plants and things that put them at risk, the variety of native species that are not honey bees, and the effects of different products and finishings on wood projects that can be harmful to the surrounding life.
