Green Checkpoint
The ocular visit was motivated to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of the Urban Vegetable Gardening initiative by assessing site readiness and fostering early community engagement. It aimed to empower Scouts through hands-on learning, environmental awareness, and active participation—aligning with the goals of the Green Rising Project and Champion for Nature Challenge
A structured ocular visit was conducted involving both Scouts and adult leaders to assess the suitability of potential gardening sites in Brgy. Mankilam and Brgy. San Isidro. The activity began with an orientation, followed by field inspections where participants evaluated key factors like soil condition, water access, and sunlight. Scouts actively engaged in note-taking, site documentation, and informal dialogues with local residents to gather insights and foster community support.
The ocular visit taught the importance of thorough site assessment and community involvement in ensuring the success of sustainable urban gardening projects. It highlighted how collaboration with local residents and leaders strengthens support and fosters environmental stewardship. Overall, the experience enhanced the Scouts’ leadership skills and deepened their understanding of practical steps needed for effective project implementation.
