Food for life project in Eastern Cape

The Community Church Scout Group in Eastern Cape established a food garden, led by Zenakhe Madondile. To start the garden, the group cleared all the plants and divided the garden into plots. They planted various vegetables and no chemicals were used, instead, the group used organic loam soil and compost, creating a compost section in the corner. They hired 3 people to fence in and tighten all sides of the garden because there are many domestic animals that are abandoned. The drums donated by community members were used to collect water and the Troop Scouter used his repaired pool pump to pump water to the tap near the garden. When the garden started, many community members were so inspired. The Scouts identified 8 families in need and 5 orphanages to supply with harvested vegetables. With community members helping out, the group managed to dig and lay pipes. The first 8 families started picking vegetables once a week, the group distributed to the orphanages, and they also supplied Ubudlelwane Foundation with fresh vegetables to help them with their soup kitchen initiative for the community.
