Flash Rover Crew Service 2012 - Ted Whitworth Award
In 2012, Flash Rover Crew participated in many service activities including:
• Painting a mural at the Hawthorn Scout Hall which involved all members of the Scout Group around the theme of the Scouting Law and Promise. The Rovers also ran a weekly night at each of the Joey, Cub and Scout sections to explore the Scouting Law and Promise and continue work on the mural.
• Organising and participating in a working be on Challenge Hill at Woodhouse, the SA Scouting property.
• Attendance and participation at formal events including ANZAC Day, Commonwealth Day, St Georges Day and the annual SA Branch Scout Awards ceremony
• Assisting the Blackwood Rotary club with their annual art show and the Christmas fair
• Participating and raising money for the Hutt Street Centre through the ‘Walk a Mile in my Boots’ event
• Providing environmental service at the Parra Wirra Recreation park which included assisting in a olive eradication program.
In addition to the crew based service, members of the Flash Rover Crew give considerable service individually to Scouting and the community. Based on this service, Flash Rover Crew won the Ted Whitworth Award for 2012.
The Ted Whitworth Award is awarded each year by Lodge Baden Powell to the Rover Crew who performs the greatest Service to the Community as decided by the Branch Rover Council and presented to the recipient of the award at the meeting of the Lodge immediately after the Founder of the Scout Associations birthday on the 22nd February, Lord Baden Powell.
This Award is a way that Freemasonry and Scouting, and in particular, the Rover Section can interact with each other and assist each other to grow and serve the Community and Scouting together to maintain the close bonds that the organisations share together.
Rover crews put together a nomination for the award that details all of the service provided by the crew and individuals both within scouting and the wider community. This is presented to the Branch Rover Council executive who evaluates the applications and recommends to Lodge Baden Powell the crew deemed most worthy of the award.
