Fire Protection
The Province ran a fire protection project in one of the Western Cape camping sites, Hawequas based in Wellington. The project took placed in March 2013 and was led by Scouter Paddy Milner. They installed water tanks and fire hose connectors which were place in the main camping area and in the forest. A sign board was developed by the local fire protection agency to act as a ‘fire barometer’ this was set by the warden as conditions dictates, and indicates the fire risk. This project has helped Hawequas management to place the sign in a highly visible location, so that all visitors are made aware of the fire risk and days when open fires will not be allowed. Now that the project is complete Scouts and non – Scouts will continue to enjoy safe hiking, swimming and contact with nature.
