Earth hour is a global campaign organized by WWF across the globe to create awareness among the responsible citizen. WWF-India TNSO organized press meet on 11th March 2013 at Taj Coromandal Hotel, Nungampakkam, where WWF introduce the Earth Hour Chennai City Ambassador Mr. Jiiva, a well known Tamil film actor. During the press meet he addressed the media about the campaign and also said that he is very happy to join WWF Earth Hour initiative. Following to this, on 23rd March, WWF-TNSO observed the Earth Hour celebration at Spencer Plaza in the evening hours from 7.00 pm to 1000 pm. Almost 3,000 Chennai citizens like students, teachers, corporate members, volunteers, NGO’s members and many other attended the event. The programme started with brief introduction on earth hour and continued with students, corporate members cultural activities. In continuation to this, 8.30 p.m the lights were off in the venue and students and other were holding candles and solar lanterns and take oath to conserve our own environment. The programme concluded with the remarkable message from the chief guests and guest of honor.
