We arranged various activities to celebrate Earth Hour on 19th March. 300 scouts and guides of V.P.S. Highschool.,Lonavla visited 5234 families in lonavla city and appealed to them to turn off lights between 8.30 to 9.30 pm on 19th March.I told each scouts and guides to visit minimum 5 families and aware them about Earth Hour.,but proudly say that in one day period scouts and guides visited 5234 families.Some of them visited more than 100 families. Last year we arranged Earth Hour awareness rally but this time on 18th March we went door to door to spread awareness of Earth Hour with a pamphlet giving the importance of Earth Hour.We also visited the Electricity Office and appealed them to turn off the lights for one hour on 19th March. On 19th March we took a pledge to celebrate Earth Hour and also save lights in future. A candle light dinner programme was arranged with my 30 scouts at 8.30 pm. We sent up in the sky many lamps with a peace message on it. 270 scouts and guides turn off their lights from 8.30 to 9.30 pm at home and celebrate this day with their parents. 300 scouts and guides + my service on both days 301×7=2107 hours service hours by all 300 scouts and guides parents 900×1=900 hours service hours by lonavla citizens 30% of 5234 is 1570 minimum 4 members in family 1570×4= 6280 6280×1hour= 6280 hours. ( We count this 1570 failies because they are neighbours of scouts and guides. Scouts and guides also watched on them on 19th March ) Total service hours = 2107+900+6280= 9287 hours.
