Each year, a particular day during the first or second week of June is observed as Green Mizoram Day, dedicated for planting of trees and for maintenance of the trees planted in the previous years. Since its constitution in 1999, planting of trees have been carried out by the Government Departments, Semi Government Departments, NGOs, Educational Institutions and public on identified locations which includes Government lands, roadsides, private lands etc. And in the entire Mizoram, as many as 13,52,618 seedlings have so far been planted under Green Mizoram Programme upto 2008.
