Crew 73 Visits Costa Rica - 2014

Crew 73, from Diamond Bar, CA, traveled to Costa Rica after one year of planning and fund raising. This trip allowed us, the scouts, to learn about another culture and making friends with the scouts of Grupo 8, San Jose, Costa Rica, while providing community service to environment and the people of Costa Rica. Our crew, completed two major service projects: 1. Understood the importance of the protection of marine turtles and provided service by helping keeping watch on the beach during the night to protect any turtles that came out to lay eggs on the beach. Although we were not able to find any turtle, which is pure luck, we were able to scare off poachers trying to steal eggs. 2. Provided community service by cleaning, painting and restoring areas of a community park, currently under development, which provides free play areas for families of different Costa Rican backgrounds to spend with their families and friends Both of these projects were provided the crew not only the opportunity to provide service hours to the communities of Costa Rica, but also provided the scouts complete exposure to the culture of Costa Rica and an appreciation of the global scout movement.
