Cleaning up marine litter from Singapore shores
A small but effective group spent 4hrs on a public holiday doing their part for the environment. The short hours coincided with the low tide to allow us to reach several hard-to-reach areas. Covering a length of 1km of the Tanah Merah / East Coast Beach, we removed 48kg worth of marine rubbish. The rubbish collected was recorded and contributes towards a bigger picture: realising that their small effort has potentially far reaching impact was reward enough for these tired happy scouts. The icing on the cake was when they realised that part of the beach they cleaned was a potential marine turtle nesting site - clearing rubbish is not only about the rubbish, but also about contributing towards a bigger global picture towards conservation. One of the things they realised most is "just because you do not see it does not mean it is not there"
